About

London's first hotel to run electric lights throughout in 1889, the Savoy sits on the Strand between Covent Garden and the Thames, and the American Bar inside it has a fair claim to inventing the modern cocktail menu. Riverside rooms look straight across to the South Bank, and the art deco Thames Foyer's afternoon tea runs to a small string quartet most days. It is formal in a way some of London's newer luxury hotels are not, and regulars book it for exactly that reason.
