The ferry out from Battery Park is the only way to reach either island, and it is also the best angle on the Manhattan skyline you will get without a helicopter. Ellis Island's immigration museum, included in the same ticket, is worth the extra hour, the main hall where twelve million arrivals were processed is left largely as it was. Pedestal access is included with most tickets, crown access is a separate, much more limited allotment booked weeks ahead in high season.
