About

The Pantheon's dome, unreinforced concrete standing since 128 AD with a hole open to the sky at its center, is still the largest of its kind ever built, and it sits a ten minute walk from the fountains and street performers of Piazza Navona. Rain falls straight through the oculus onto the marble floor below, a small drainage system handles it and nobody stops the tour for weather. Evening light through the doorway is the best time to see the dome's coffered ceiling properly lit.
