About

The white domes of Sacre-Coeur sit at the top of Paris' highest hill, and the steps in front of it are the single best free skyline view in the city, especially in the hour before sunset when the crowd thins and the light turns gold. The streets behind the basilica, Place du Tertre and the vineyard on Rue Saint-Vincent, still look like the village Montmartre was before Paris grew around it. Skip the funicular unless your legs are tired, the walk up through the side streets is the better route.
