Built in the depths of the Depression and still holding back the Colorado River eighty degrees of concrete arc later, the dam tour actually walks you inside the structure to the generator floor, not just across the top. Lake Mead on one side and the Black Canyon drop on the other make the scale genuinely hard to process from photos alone. Go early, the desert heat on the exposed walkway is no joke by midday from May through September.
