The park covers about a fifth of the island, a cunucu landscape of cactus, divi-divi trees and volcanic rock that looks nothing like the beach postcards, with wild donkeys and the odd Aruban rattlesnake turning up along the way. Conchi, the natural pool ringed by lava rock at the park's northern tip, is reachable only by 4x4 or a long hike, and a guide knows which route the tide has not washed out. Rental cars with a soft top voice their insurance the moment they cross into the park, book a proper off-road jeep instead.
